Mythic Trilliax Guide for Prot Warriors

Tanking Trilliax

To do list

  • Swap on 2 stacks of debuff
  • Share the cleave damage from slash
  • Taunt add and cleave with boss
  • Don’t die to spinning laser – laser

Best case scenario this is another tank and spank fight for you.

Worst case – you will be running to the opposite sides of the room trying to help the raid out with mechanics, while at the same time keeping an eye out for timers so you are back on the boss when abilities happen.

More on that in the next section

Tanking Add

The tank which is not actively tanking the boss picks up the add. Everyone should focus it and it should die shortly after the first Annihilation phase. Worst case – you will have to swap around the boss and the add once, shortly before the add actually dies.

If you get to the point of the second add – keep it alive and all DPS should be focused on finishing up the boss.

Feeling lost? Start with the basics.

This guide is intended for tanks, specifically protection warriors who are familiar with the encounter either through doing the Heroic version or going through a general overview and strategy guide like these:

Tanking Trilliax

To do list – tryhard edition

  • Eat nearby cakes or leap to far away ones
  • Click on exploding scrubbers to soak explosion and prevent raid wide damage
  • Don’t die to spinning laser again – laser

Normally you shouldn’t have to do this, but in case your DPSers are just meter whoring or your raid team are otherwise having trouble handing the mechanics you have the option to step in and save the day.

You have small windows of opportunity to soak cakes and scrubbers while off tanking:

  1. Between two slashes – right after you share the slash damage you have several seconds to soak with a leap + Intercept combo
  2. Whenever you don’t have bonds – because you need to stack with your co-tank during the tether…

Annihilation repositioning

When Trilliax jumps to the center of the room to cast his Annihilation beam, he will turn to face the location where he was standing before the jump. This makes dodging his initial cast predictable. Keep in mind he still changes spinning direction of the beam.

If you keep an eye on timers you can quickly Intercept the boss as he lands and sidestep to avoid the getting lasered.

Anger management

Taking into account the necessary frequent tank swaps and especially if you will not be tanking the add, an AM + BV build can be quite viable if executed properly. You can read more about the playstyle in my AM build guide, but in brief this is how it will work on Trilliax.

The biggest source of burst magic damage comes from slash. AM will allow you to largely trivialize that by having a big damage reduction CD up for every 2nd slash. Pair that with BV for a free on demand 60 rage IP and you will be taking minimal spike damage.

Weave in revenge while off-tanking, but make sure to save up a full rage bar for when you taunt. This playstyle comes at the cost of a bit lower SB uptime and lower overall damage smoothing, but it is a good trade-off if you are having issues with the spike damage or needs a DPS boost.

Cooldown management

You will be using your defensive cooldowns to primarily mitigate the spike damage from Triliax’s slash.

The given timepoints are of the moment when you take the damage. Make sure to precast your defensives a second before the damage hits i.e. during the ability cast time.

Again your LS will be your panic button if your health spikes unexpectedly due to an explosion or something.

Taunt after the 2nd slash application on your co-tank. If you are using the AM build, prioritize revenge while off-tanking until the “Pool rage” timepoint.

A slower than average kill on progression with people dying at the end might take about 5:30 minutes.
